Delamere Forest Runner

With the 5kms of parkrun done at an increasing pace after a very slow fist half it felt like time to see whether the improvement that came with distance was a purely short-lived phenononon or something I could expect to last if I could train for longer distances. Delamere is a place I’ve done all sorts of runs over the years – my first night run back when headlamps for the masses had bulbs rather than LEDS, formal cani-cross with both Albie and Lennie and traditional trail runs. It can be magical or, as today running the main paths with few leaves on the trees, a bit bleak, but it has it’s interest either way.

Again, a dullish day, not raining much but never feeling really dry either. The start was likely a bit confused for the faster runners with both the 5km and 10km going off together but for us also-rans it mattered little as we had a little huddle of our own going. Aware of my frailties I am starting too far back in every run I do but I would sooner have the draw of passing people than having a constant stream of humanity going past me right from the earliest stages, but I am overdoing it.

We jogged off, personally I was glad to see not directly up the grassy hill in front of us that I had seen people training up but away to the right on a well made up path. Through the 3km mark in reasonable
